LCDR Katie Hager serves as a Program Officer for the Medical Reserve Corps Program under the Partner Readiness and Emergency Programs Division within the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR). She is responsible for helping to coordinate programmatic and operational activities in support of Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) units nationwide while supporting the mission of OEM and ASPR. She is a strong advocate for building bridges between tribal governments and local MRC units.

LCDR Hager has been a U.S. Public Health Service officer since 2006, and has previously completed tours of duty with the Indian Health Service. Katie comes to the MRC from Fort Defiance Indian Hospital on the Navajo Nation where she served as an emergency department nurse.

LCDR Hager has been a life long volunteer since early childhood. She has been active with Girl Scouts since she was four years old. While in high school, she began her emergency service career as a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician. She pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Emergency Medical Services both clinical para-medicine as well as emergency management from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). She then went on to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University. Currently, she is working toward her Master's Degree in Emergency Management from UMBC.

Katie feels that she has returned home by joining the Medical Reserve Corps program. Upon graduating from UMBC she began as a MRC Coordinator for the State of Maryland, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene MRC, Behavioral Health component. She greatly enjoyed this work and is excited to be working once again for the MRC program.

A few quick facts about LCDR Katie Hager:

  • Emergency Management as a career field must be genetic, growing up with two parents involved in federal service and emergency management. She and her brother are following a similar path.
  • Katie and her husband share a love for volunteering and together serve their local community fire department as well as our community celebrations committee.
  • LCDR Hager has a daughter MacKenzie and describes herself as a bonus mom to two amazing children, Samantha and Dylan!
