Jeannette M. Tandez
Region V MRC Regional Liaison
Be the change you want to see in the world... (Mahatma Ghandhi). This is Jeannette’s favorite quote and one she tries to embrace every day. Jeannette serves as the Region V MRC Liaison for the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Program under the Partner Readiness and Emergency Programs Division housed within the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR). She provides technical assistance and support to existing and newly establishing units to Region V (IL, IN, MI, MN, OH, and WI).
Jeannette possesses a Master’s Degree in Public Health with a focus in Epidemiology. Prior to joining the MRC Program, she worked in various capacities for state, county, and local public health agencies continuing to develop her professional and personal skills while building strong community partnerships.
She is dedicated and passionate about her work, which has focused around public health, emergency preparedness, training, planning, and helping communities become more resilient and self-sufficient. She enjoys serving as a mentor and leader and believes in forward thinking and teamwork to overcome difficult challenges. While previously working for the Cook County Department of Public Health for 6 ½ years, she wore many hats including Epidemiologist, Emergency Response Coordinator, and MRC Coordinator serving a jurisdiction of over 700 square miles, 125 municipalities, and 2.3 million people. Currently, she works closely with approximately 125 individual MRC units that have over 15,000 registered volunteers to support the mission of OEM and ASPR, coordinate goals with MRC Program, and advance the U.S. Surgeon General's public health priorities.
Despite work challenges, what has kept Jeannette motivated and inspired has been the community partners and the volunteers that she has worked with. They have served as role models to Jeannette, and have helped to keep her focused and inspired to work even harder. She remains passionate and enthusiastic about this field and is eager to continue building relationships. More importantly, she hopes she is making a difference. She feels blessed and thankful for her strong family base and core group of friends.
