Upstate Public Health Reserve Corps ( 1151 )

The Western Piedmont Medical Reserve Corps is a community based regional corps composed of medical and non-medical volunteers from Anderson, Abbeville, Cherokee, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg and Union counties. The primary purpose of the WPMRC unit is to augment and support the local emergency response during times of disaster and public health emergencies. Through volunteer disaster training, preparedness education, participation in community planning, and involvement in coalition exercises we support and increase surge capacity in our region. During times of non emergency we increase the capacity of our community to address and recover from disasters by participating in public health initiatives and partnerships.

The Upstate region of South Carolina is made up of eleven counties with a rural and urban mix and representing close to a million and a half people. The Upstate is the northwestern area of South Carolina which begins in the western Piedmont flat land, climbs to the Upstate foothills, and rises further to meet the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Appalachian range. The Upstate also shares a common border to the north with the state of North Carolina and to the west with Georgia.
